How does therapy work?

I believe that often the reason people cannot make the changes they want to make in their life is because they are enmeshed in their circumstances. It is a bit like being in a cloud – you can only see mist when you are in it rather than seeing the cloud’s full beauty in the big blue sky. Being in the 'mist' of things may cloud your vision. Therapy highlights the taken-for-granted beliefs you have which might stop you seeing new possibilities. It gives you perspective and a new way of viewing things. Therapy can also shed light on parts of yourself that you did not fully know. This helps you feel more complete and opens inner resources that you did not quite know were there.

Essentially, therapy brings awareness. This helps you see yourself more clearly. This clarity allows you to move with vision and courage into your future. By knowing yourself more, you can step over hurdles which used to trip you up. With awareness, you are also able to appreciate your strengths and see how you can use them to enrich your life.
